Huawei’s description suggests the platform’s data centers utilize its Ascend series chipsets. However, the company has remained tight-lipped about the precise GPUs employed. Doria claims that the DeepSeek LLM’s inference is powered by the Ascend 910C chips. These chips are considered a competitor to Nvidia’s H800. This claim has added fuel to the fire.

    The timing of DeepSeek-R1’s release, just a week prior to this announcement, raises intriguing questions. AI models are typically optimized for the same hardware used during training. While it’s possible to optimize for other GPUs, this is often a lengthy process. Huawei can run the model’s inference on its Ascend platform.     The rollout of India’s Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), the eRupee, is gaining momentum. This is due to the launch of full-fledged wallets by digital payments platform MobiKwik. Additionally, a beta version has been released by CRED. These developments mark a significant step towards wider adoption of the digital currency.

    MobiKwik has announced it is the first digital wallet to launch a full, production-ready version of an eRupee wallet. The wallet is available to all its Android users. It enables seamless transactions. These transactions include sending and receiving funds to other eRupee wallets and regular bank accounts via UPI. This includes both peer-to-peer (P2P) and peer-to-merchant (P2M) transactions. Notably, users can scan and pay at any UPI QR code using eRupee, highlighting its full interoperability.

    MobiKwik emphasized that its existing user base with full KYC will be able to instantly open an eRupee wallet. They can load it from their bank account. New users will need to complete video KYC before accessing the eRupee wallet.

    Meanwhile, payments platform CRED has also launched a beta version of its eRupee wallet. This wallet was developed in partnership with the RBI and Yes Bank. Yes Bank plays a crucial role as the first sponsor bank. It enables CBDC issuance for a third-party application provider (TPAP) like CRED. The bank stated its commitment to driving innovation and supporting the future of digital payments.

    The eRupee wallet comes with certain transaction limits. There is a daily limit of Rs 50,000. There is also a per-transaction limit of Rs 10,000. The digital currency is available in denominations of 50 paise. It also comes in Re 1, Rs 2, Rs 5, Rs 10, and Rs 20. It also includes Rs 50, Rs 100, Rs 200, and Rs 500.

    Bipin Preet Singh, Managing Director of MobiKwik, expressed optimism about the future of CBDC. He stated, “We expect that CBDC will make the Indian rupee digital. It will further expand the digital economy. eRupee transfers can be made to anyone with an eRupee wallet or UPI ID.”

    These launches follow the RBI’s April 2024 announcement allowing non-banks to offer e-rupee transactions, expanding access beyond banks. The increased availability of eRupee wallets from established players like MobiKwik and CRED is expected to boost adoption. It will also further integrate the CBDC into India’s digital payments landscape. These developments highlight the RBI’s ongoing efforts. They aim to establish the eRupee as a viable form of digital currency. The RBI wants it to be widely used.

    During the showcase, id Software, the game’s developer, offered a deep dive into Doom: The Dark Ages. The game promises to be the most ambitious Doom title yet. It serves as a prequel to the 2016 Doom and Doom Eternal. Players will be transported to a dark fantasy/sci-fi world and face off against even bigger and badder demons.  

    The gameplay seems to take a more defensive approach compared to previous titles. The Doom Slayer will be equipped with a shield saw. He will also carry medieval weaponry.     Xiaomi claims that WinPlay results in only a minor 2.9% loss in GPU performance compared to native Windows gaming. The system leverages Xiaomi’s HyperCore technology, a self-developed kernel platform that optimizes performance, graphics, network, and security across the device.  

    HyperCore, introduced with the Android 15-based HyperOS 2, includes a proprietary scheduler. This scheduler reduces CPU idle time by 19%. It also significantly accelerates app launch speeds. Developed by over 3,000 engineers, HyperCore optimizes performance across more than 25,000 scenarios.
