Vodafone Idea Launches Baggage Protection Service for Postpaid Users

Vodafone Idea (Vi) has introduced a new baggage protection service for its postpaid international roaming plans. The service started through a partnership with US-based Blue Ribbon Bags. It aims to provide users with an additional layer of safety for their luggage while traveling abroad.

    How it Works

Vi postpaid users must purchase an international roaming pack to avail of the service. They also need to activate Baggage Protection at an additional cost of Rs. 99. Users must also register with Blue Ribbon Bags before their flight. If baggage is lost or delayed, users must report it to the airline. They must also file a report with Blue Ribbon Bags within 24 hours of landing.

    Compensation and Benefits

Blue Ribbon Bags will track and expedite the return of the luggage using its global network. If the baggage is not returned within four days (96 hours), the company will provide a compensation of Rs. 19,800 per bag to the user. The compensation can be availed for up to two bags per user.

    Industry Context

A 2024 report by SITA reveals that over 36 million bags were mishandled globally last year. Vi highlighted this finding, raising concerns about baggage security for travelers. The new service aims to address this concern. It will provide Vi users with an additional safety net. This will improve their travel experience.

    Availability

The baggage protection service is available with all postpaid international roaming plans with an add-on. Vi users can activate the service in two steps. First, purchase an international roaming pack. Then, register with Blue Ribbon Bags before their flight.

  • GitHub Copilot Major Update: New Features Explained

GitHub Copilot Gets Major Update with New Agent Mode, Copilot Edits, and Project Padawan

GitHub, the Microsoft-owned coding platform, has announced significant updates to its artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, GitHub Copilot. The updates introduce a new agent mode. They also include Copilot Edits. Additionally, there is a first look at Project Padawan, an autonomous software engineer (SWE) AI agent.

    New Agent Mode

The new agent mode in GitHub Copilot allows the chatbot to automatically iterate on code. It can analyze errors generated by the code. This mode allows the chatbot to be more independent and proactive, recognizing errors and fixing them without human intervention. Additionally, it can analyze run-time errors, suggest terminal commands, and complete subtasks necessary to finish a primary task.

    Copilot Edits

Copilot Edits, first announced at the GitHub Universe in October 2024, is now generally available in VS Code. This feature enables developers to specify files for code rewriting. They can describe the desired changes using natural language. Copilot Edits then contextually understands the command and makes inline changes to the files. Users can review, accept, and iterate on the suggested changes.

    Project Padawan

GitHub has also unveiled Project Padawan, an autonomous SWE AI agent that will be integrated into Copilot later this year. This AI agent can be assigned issues using any GitHub client in Copilot, producing fully tested pull requests. After completing a task, the chatbot assigns human reviewers to the pull request and automatically resolves any feedback.

These updates demonstrate GitHub’s commitment to enhancing the coding experience with AI-powered tools. The new features and Project Padawan are expected to revolutionize the way developers work, making coding more efficient and accurate.

  • Navigating China’s AI Regulations: Apple’s Strategy

Apple Explores Integration of DeepSeek’s AI Models into Apple Intelligence

Apple might integrate DeepSeek’s artificial intelligence (AI) models into Apple Intelligence. This information comes from a recent leak by a China-based tipster. This move could potentially allow Apple to introduce its AI features in China, where the company has faced regulatory hurdles.

    Regulatory Challenges in China

China’s strict regulatory policies require AI-powered devices, software, and platforms to obtain a government certificate before launch. However, the country has yet to approve any AI models not built in China or run on Chinese servers. This situation has stopped Apple from launching its AI features in China. Consequently, there has been a significant drop in sales of the iPhone 16 series.

    DeepSeek R1 AI Model

Apple is testing DeepSeek’s reasoning-focused R1 AI model, according to the tipster. It serves as a potential alternative to its native AI models. DeepSeek’s AI model, released under an MIT license, allows for commercial usage and could be integrated into Apple Intelligence.

    Benefits of Integration

If the integration is successful, Apple could overcome two significant challenges:

    1. Regulatory Approval: Since DeepSeek’s AI model was built in China, it is likely to receive regulatory approval. This approval would enable Apple to introduce its AI features in the Chinese market.
    2. Data Security: By using DeepSeek R1 as an on-device model, Apple can maintain data security for users. This approach does not rely on third-party servers.

Potential Expansion to Europe and the US

The tipster also suggests that Apple could introduce DeepSeek’s AI model in Europe. It could also be introduced in the US. Apple Intelligence is not currently available in these regions. The low API costs and local inference value of DeepSeek R1 make it an attractive option for the company.

    No Official Confirmation

The leak provides insight into Apple’s potential plans. However, the company has not officially confirmed the integration of DeepSeek’s AI models into Apple Intelligence. As always, we recommend taking leaks and rumors with a grain of salt until official confirmation is provided.

  • New Evidence Reveals Moon’s Tectonic Activity

Moon’s ‘Dormant’ Past Challenged by New Evidence of Tectonic Activity

A new study was published in The Planetary Science Journal on January 21, 2025. It has shaken long-held beliefs about the moon’s geological history. Researchers from the Smithsonian Institution and the University of Maryland have found evidence. It suggests that the moon may be far more tectonically active than previously thought.

The study focuses on 266 previously undocumented small ridges on the far side of the moon. These ridges, located within ancient volcanic regions estimated to be 3.2 to 3.6 billion years old, appear remarkably young compared to their surroundings. The research team used crater counting. This method estimates the age of a surface based on the number of impact craters. They concluded that these ridges likely formed within the last 200 million years.

The surface has more time to accumulate impact marks,” Jaclyn Clark explained. She is an Assistant Research Scientist at the University of Maryland’s Department of Geology. This information was provided in a university statement. “The surface has more time to accumulate impact marks.” The team analyzed the ridges cutting through existing impact sites. They counted the craters on their surfaces. With these observations, the team determined that these formations were active as recently as 160 million years ago.

This discovery challenges the conventional understanding of the moon as a geologically dormant world. These young ridges suggest that tectonic forces are active beneath the lunar surface. They drive geological activity. This finding has significant implications for future lunar exploration and the potential establishment of lunar infrastructure. Understanding the moon’s ongoing geological activity is crucial for selecting safe and stable locations for lunar bases and other facilities. It also raises new questions about the moon’s internal structure and thermal history, potentially opening new avenues for scientific investigation.
