Our universe might be just one bubble in an infinite multiverse, researchers suggest. Cosmic inflation and quantum physics allow scenarios of many universes, potentially explaining why nature’s constants seem finely tuned. We’d exist in one of the rare life-friendly bubbles.
The inflation model proposes that ultra-fast growth after the Big Bang created a series of bubble-like universes. Each region that ends inflation forms a new, individual cosmos, possibly with unique laws of physics. This could be infinite, with each world having different parameters.
Scientists search for signs of other universes. They look for things like bubble collisions imprinted in cosmic microwave background radiation. However, none have been detected. The quantum “Many-Worlds” interpretation suggests every quantum event creates branching realities, resulting in countless parallel universes with all possible histories.
However, other universes may lie beyond observational reach, making the idea untestable. Critics warn that without testable predictions, the multiverse may stray into metaphysics.
