Huawei Launches Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design Tri-Fold Phone
Huawei launched the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design on Monday. It is the company’s second tri-fold smartphone. The first Mate XT arrived last year as a mass-market tri-fold model. The new phone changes the fold and raises the price.
The China price starts at CNY 19,999, or about Rs. 2.81 lakh. That base model has 16GB RAM and 256GB storage. The 512GB version costs CNY 21,999, or about Rs. 3.09 lakh. The 1TB model is CNY 23,999, or about Rs. 3.38 lakh. A 1TB privacy-display version costs CNY 24,999, or about Rs. 3.52 lakh. A Collector Edition with 16GB RAM and 2TB storage is priced at CNY 29,999, or about Rs. 4.22 lakh.
Colour options include Dark Black, Pure White, and Jin Purple. Sales are focused on China for now.
Huawei redesigned the hinge. The first Mate XT folded outward. The XT 2 folds inward instead. Therefore, the main screen stays covered when the phone is shut. Unfolded, it offers a 10.2-inch 3K OLED panel. The display supports a 1–120Hz LTPO refresh rate and high-frequency PWM dimming. Folded, users get a 6.5-inch cover screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio. A privacy-screen option can also limit side viewing.
The Kirin 9050 Pro chipset powers the phone. Huawei says its LogicFolding design raises performance by up to 46 percent over the Kirin 9030 Pro. All variants include 16GB RAM.
The rear module holds a multi-camera setup. A 50-megapixel main sensor uses a 1/1.28-inch format, variable aperture, OIS, and an RYYB filter. A 40-megapixel ultrawide lens and a 50-megapixel 3.5x periscope telephoto camera join it. A dedicated colour sensor supports truer colour capture. Both the cover and inner displays have 8-megapixel front cameras.
Battery capacity is 5,600mAh. Wired SuperCharge reaches 66W. Wireless SuperCharge reaches 50W. Unfolded thickness is 3.5mm. Weight is 299g. The phone also carries IP58 and IP59 ratings for dust and water resistance.
The Mate XT 2 therefore keeps the tri-fold idea and moves it toward a more protected inward design. It remains a high-priced, China-first flagship rather than a mass mid-range phone.
