CD Projekt Red has confirmed strong sales for Cyberpunk 2077. The popular RPG has now sold 40 million copies worldwide. Moreover, the game achieved this milestone in less than six years since its launch.

Regular discounts, frequent content updates, and the successful Phantom Liberty expansion have boosted the game’s performance. These efforts helped attract new players even years after release.

Cyberpunk 2077 Sells 40 Million Copies

The latest sales figure covers data up to July 3. It includes both standalone copies and the Ultimate Edition bundle that contains the Phantom Liberty expansion.

Cyberpunk 2077 faced major challenges at launch in 2020. Players reported many bugs and performance issues. As a result, the game was temporarily removed from the PlayStation Store. However, the developer worked hard to fix these problems. CD Projekt Red released regular updates that greatly improved the game.

The studio gradually rebuilt player trust. In addition, the acclaimed Phantom Liberty expansion added fresh content and story. This DLC has sold over 10 million units as of May 2025. Consequently, it contributed significantly to the base game’s continued success.

In November 2025, CD Projekt Red announced that Cyberpunk 2077 had crossed 35 million copies sold. Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski expressed satisfaction at the time. He noted that the game still attracts new players despite its age. The strong sales highlight the franchise’s lasting appeal.

Future Plans for the Franchise

CD Projekt Red is now developing Cyberpunk 2. The sequel is expected to launch in the fourth quarter of 2030. Reports suggest the studio has allocated a large budget for this project. Meanwhile, the team also works on The Witcher 4 and a remake of the original Witcher game.

Cyberpunk 2077 has transformed from a troubled launch into a major commercial success. The game continues to perform well across all platforms. Furthermore, its ongoing updates keep the community engaged.

This achievement demonstrates the value of long-term support for video games. Players now enjoy a much-improved experience in the vast world of Night City. CD Projekt Red’s commitment to quality has clearly paid off.
