  • Gmail Q&A: New AI Feature for iOS Users

Gmail Q&A is an artificial intelligence (AI) feature. It lets users ask questions about their emails. The feature was first rolled out to the web version of the platform earlier this year. It was then added to the Android app in August, letting eligible users access the capability on the go. At the time, Google stated that the feature would soon be rolled out to iOS devices as well. On Thursday, the tech giant finally introduced Gmail Q&A to iPhone users with compatible iOS versions.

The tech company announced the rollout of the Gmail Q&A feature to iOS devices on Thursday. It revealed that it is only available to Google Workspace users. These users must have signed into their account on the device. This is also the case on Android, where users will need an eligible subscription to use the feature.

The Gmail Q&A feature is rolling out on iOS. It allows users to have a conversation with the Gemini-powered chatbot. Users gain insights into the emails in their inbox.

Users can ask AI some specific questions about their emails. They can request to show unread messages. The AI can also show emails from a particular sender. It can summarise emails about a common topic. Additionally, users can seek vague details from a specific email. The feature can answer all of this while holding a friendly conversation.

  • The Impact of the 2024 Geomagnetic Storm on Earth

In May 2024, a remarkable geomagnetic storm, also known as solar storm, impacted Earth, resulting in vibrant auroras that captivated observers worldwide. These stunning natural displays occur when eruptions of solar plasma, known as coronal mass ejections, collide with Earth’s magnetic field. While these events are a visual delight, they also raise significant questions about the impact of solar radiation on humans travelling beyond Earth’s atmosphere.

BioSentinel, a compact satellite roughly the size of a cereal box, is situated over 30 million miles from Earth in a solar orbit. Unlike life on Earth, which is shielded by the planet’s magnetic field, BioSentinel had to endure the full effects of the solar storm. Initial data suggest that although the storm was considerable, it was only associated with a moderate increase in solar radiation, indicating that the immediate threats to life may not be as severe as previously anticipated.

During this geomagnetic event, NASA’s BioSentinel spacecraft took the opportunity to gather crucial data on solar radiation. This research is vital as NASA gears up for future missions to the Moon and Mars. As noted by Sergio Santa Maria, who leads the BioSentinel project at NASA’s Ames Research Center, the timing coincided with a solar maximum, which allowed for an in-depth examination of the radiation environment in space.

The consumer tech company also said that showing these ads can increase clients’ brand awareness and perception.

Earlier this month, LG Ad Solutions announced the launch of Native Screensaver Ads, a full-screen advertising experience which activates on the home screen of LG smart TVs. The company added that this “ad format capitalises on idle screen time, turning what may be perceived as a period of downtime into a valuable engagement opportunity.”
