    Gemini AI for Android is reportedly getting a new feature allowing users to edit the images generated by the chatbot. A report found evidence for the feature within the Google beta app for Android. Interestingly, the feature is said to allow users to edit images using both text prompts and by highlighting a specific part of the image. While the feature was found in the beta app of Google, it has not been made visible and beta testers might not be able to use it.

    Editing the images generated by an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot is a difficult proposition at present. In most cases, users just have the option to regenerate the image with improved prompts. However, there is no guarantee the newly generated images will be similar to the ones previously created by the chatbot. Last week, Meta announced image editing capabilities for its chatbot.

  • OLA Electric: IPO

    Ola Electric’s IPO will open for retail subscription on Aug. 2, the Indian electric scooter maker said on Saturday, a stock offering that according to two sources will value the company between $4.2 billion to $4.4 billion.

    The issue, which will open for institutional investors a day earlier on Thursday, will close for retail subscriptions on Aug. 6, the final IPO prospectus filing showed. Ola founder Bhavish Aggarwal will offload 37.9 million shares in the IPO, around 20% lower than estimated in the draft IPO prospectus.

    Ola’s expected valuation is about 18.5% to 22% lower than in its last funding round in September, which was led by Singapore’s investment firm Temasek and valued the country’s largest e-scooter maker at $5.4 billion.

  • Gemini 1.5 Flash AI Model

    Gemini 1.5 Flash artificial intelligence model will now power the Gemini chatbot, Google announced on Thursday. With this update, the free tier of the AI chatbot on the web and the app will now be powered by the new model. Earlier, the chatbot was powered by the Gemini 1.0 Pro large language model (LLM). The tech giant claims that the new model is faster and more efficient compared to its predecessor. Notably, the update arrived just days after Meta added new capabilities to Meta AI.

    The tech giant announced the rollout of the new AI model in Gemini’s release notes. As per the post, the Gemini 1.5 Flash increases the context window of the chatbot from the previous 8,000 tokens to 32,000 tokens. With the upgraded context window, Gemini should be able to handle more complex queries and add more context to its generated responses.

    First announced by the company during its Google I/O event in May, the Google 1.5 Flash is a lightweight model which was distilled from the Gemini 1.5 Pro. At the time, the company highlighted that the Flash model prioritizes speed and reduces the input and output processing costs.

    Qualcomm has reportedly announced that it will hold its next Snapdragon Summit from October 21 to October 23 in Hawaii. The company is expected to unveil its upcoming flagship mobile chipset, the purported Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, during this event. It is speculated to be built upon a 3nm process technology from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and may deliver power and efficiency upgrades. This development builds upon the launch timeline provided by Chief Marketing Officer Don McGuire at the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2024) in Barcelona.

  • Vivo: New Launch

    Vivo V40 SE 4G has been launched in the Czech Republic. The phone is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon chipset and is backed by a 5,000mAh battery with support for wired fast charging. It carries a 50-megapixel dual rear camera unit and has an IP54-rated build. The handset joins the Vivo V40 SE 5G, Vivo V40 Lite 5G, and the Vivo V40 Lite 5G in the country. The company has yet to confirm if the new 4G variant of the Vivo V40 SE will be introduced in other markets. Notably, the base Vivo V40 and V40 Pro are confirmed to launch in India soon.

    Vivo V40 SE 4G starts in the Czech Republic at CKZ 4,999 (roughly Rs. 17,800) for the 8GB + 128GB option, while the 8GB + 256GB variant is priced at CKZ 5,999 (roughly Rs. 21,400). The phone is offered in two color options — Crystal Black and Leather Purple.

  • COD: Mordern Warfare

    Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is coming to Game Pass, Microsoft announced Tuesday. The first-person shooter title will be available on Game Pass for Console, PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate starting today, July 24. The announcement confirms recent reports that claimed Modern Warfare 3 would be making its way to the game subscription service this month.

    Released in November last year, Modern Warfare 3 will become the first Call of Duty title to join Xbox Game Pass. The most recent COD title will be playable on the service before the next instalment in the franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, arrives on Game Pass Day one when it launches October 25.

    The announcement comes days after Microsoft said it was raising the pricing for Xbox Game Pass and introducing a new ‘Standard’ tier of the subscription service that will not include new games on the day of launch. The price hike precedes popular Call of Duty games hitting the service for the first time. Crucially, the Black Ops 6 will become the first COD title to be available on Game Pass day one.

  • UPI One World Wallet Service

    UPI One World wallet service has been launched by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) for non-resident Indians (NRIs) and international travellers visiting the country. The service was first announced last year during the G20 summit which India hosted. It will allow travellers who do not have an Indian bank account to access the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) system and make payments using it. The initiative was launched by NPCI in collaboration with IDFC First Bank and Transcorp International Limited under the guidance of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

    NPCI said that travellers visiting India will be able to make secure digital payments and transact with merchants and vendors across the country with the UPI One World wallet. The service will allow travellers to eliminate the need to carry large amounts of cash or face the hassle of multiple foreign exchange transactions.

    Microsoft has released a USB recovery tool to repair PCs and other machines impacted by the infamous CrowdStrike update, the company announced in a blog post. A bootable USB drive can be created using which IT admins can expedite the repair process and get disrupted devices back on track. Notably, CrowdStrike previously revealed that its faulty update for Falcon Sensor impacted nearly 8.5 million Windows devices globally, bringing up the dreaded ‘blue screen of death’ (BSOD).

    In a blog post under the ‘Intune Customer Success’ section, Microsoft published an updated recovery tool with two repair options: recover from WinPE and recover from Safe Mode. The signed tool is available for download in the Microsoft Download Centre.

  • CrowdStrike IT Outage

    Airline systems across airports, which were impacted due to a global IT outage on Friday, have started working normally, and all issues are likely to be resolved by noon on Saturday, Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu said. The ministry is constantly monitoring the operations at airports and airlines to ensure travel readjustments and refunds are taken care of, he added.

    “Since 3 AM (Saturday), Airline systems across airports have started working normally. Flight operations are going smoothly now,” Naidu said in a statement.

    On Friday, in one of the biggest-ever IT outages, an update of a product offered by global cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike triggered problems with Microsoft’s Windows across the planet, hitting operations at financial sector companies and airlines while hospital operations got postponed and some television channels went off air.

    A botched software update from cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike Holdings Inc. crashed countless Microsoft Windows computer systems around the world on Friday.

    Microsoft Corp. and CrowdStrike have rolled out fixes, and systems are gradually being restored. But for several hours, bankers in Hong Kong, doctors in the UK and emergency responders in New Hampshire found themselves locked out of programs critical to keeping their operations afloat. Some businesses are facing the prospect of continued disruptions as the restoration process is, in some cases, requiring tech workers to manually reboot systems and remove faulty files.

    “This is unprecedented,” said Alan Woodward, professor of cybersecurity at Surrey University. “The economic impact is going to be huge.”
