  • Google Update

    Google announced seven new Android features for applications such as Meet, Home, Messages and Wear OS on Thursday. One of the highlights of the latest Android feature drop is the ability to edit RCS messages up to 15 minutes after sending them. Unlike announcements made at Google I/O 2024 where several features were limited to Pixel smartphones, these features are expected to be available to Android devices across devices and regions, although some features may be limited based on the region a user lives in.

    RCS Message Editing

    In a blog post, Google announced that it is bringing a feature that lets users edit RCS messages up to 15 minutes after sending them. This feature is said to be available via Google Messages – the company’s text messaging app.

    To edit a message, tap and hold on a sent RCS message and a new edit icon will be displayed on the top banner. Users can tap on the icon to modify their message, as long as it was sent within the last 15 minutes, according to the company.

    Instant Hotspot and Device Switching

    Google says that it will soon bring an ‘instant hotspot’ feature that will enable users to connect a tablet or a Chromebook to an Android smartphone’s hotspot without needing to type in the password. It is also bringing an update to Cross-Device Services that will let users switch between devices such as smartphones, web browsers or tablets for video calls.

    Google claims that Android smartphones can now also be used as digital car keys with lock/unlock, vehicle start functionalities. The feature has been rolled out with support for select MINI models and will be expanded to Mercedes-Benz and Polestar vehicles soon.

    Furthermore, the company says users can now control their smart devices using the Google Home Favorites widget on Android smartphones and the Google Home Favorites tile and complication on WearOS-powered smartwatches.

    Google Wallet users using WearOS-powered smartwatches in the US and Germany can now make payments with PayPal, according to the company. Lastly, it says new Emoji Kitchen sticker combinations will be rolling out soon, which can be shared as stickers by entering two emoji via Gboard.

  • Samsung Galaxy AI

    Samsung unveiled its Galaxy AI suite in January with the Galaxy S24 series. The South Korean brand’s on-device and cloud-based AI model has since made its way to previous-generation flagship smartphones and tablets in the last few months. Now, Samsung is adding Galaxy AI to its wearables. The Galaxy AI features will be added to the Samsung Health app and Galaxy Watches later this year. It will bring several features to monitor and analyse health metrics.

    On May 29, Samsung announced that it is bringing Galaxy AI features to its smartwatches through its Wear OS-based One UI 6 Watch software later this year. A limited number of Galaxy Watches will get the beta version in June. Users of Galaxy Watch 6, Galaxy Watch 6 Classic, Galaxy Watch 5, Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, Galaxy Watch 4, and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic in the US and Canada will be able to test out Galaxy AI features via the Samsung Members app next month.

  • Fitbit Ace LTE

    Google unveiled the Fitbit Ace LTE Smart band in the US on Wednesday, May 29. It is claimed to be a “new, first-of-its-kind connected smartwatch” for kids above the age of seven. It is said to come with the benefits of a smartphone without needing a phone. It gets support for calling messaging and location sharing. The smart wearable supports Fitbit Arcade, which is said to bring newer games with each update apart from the exclusive, pre-installed games it ships with. The smart band will be available for sale later this year in various cases and band color options.

    Fitbit Ace LTE is priced in the US at $229.95 (roughly Rs. 19,200) and will go on sale from June 5 via Amazon or Google Store. It is currently available for pre-order in the US.

  • Copilot AI

    Copilot AI has been introduced on the Microsoft Launcher app for Android with the latest beta update released on May 27. The launcher app provides Android users a new and alternative home screen experience with features such as a customisable UI, personalised feed, quick view of documents and in-built sticky notes. The Copilot AI integration brings artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities to the launcher with multi-modal enhancements for content creation and quick response to search queries.

  • Iyo One Earbuds

    Iyo One earbuds have emerged as the latest contender to take on the challenge of implementing artificial intelligence (AI) in a wearable form factor. This will be the California-based startup Iyo’s second audio device and the first that aims to integrate AI chatbots within it. However, the company is not pitching it simply as an AI device, as the Iyo One can also function as a standalone device to listen to music and podcasts. Currently, the earbuds are open for pre-order and the company’s website highlights that it will be shipping it globally once launched.

  • Samsung Galaxy F55 5G

    Samsung Galaxy F55 5G has been launched in India on May 27, Monday. The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC and packs a 5,000mAh battery. It also gets a 50-megapixel triple rear camera unit and an in-display fingerprint sensor. It is offered in two colour options with vegan leather finishes. The Samsung Galaxy F55 is claimed to be the lightest and slimmest vegan leather phone in its segment in India.

    The 8GB + 128GB option of the Samsung Galaxy F55 5G is listed at Rs. 26,999 in India, while the 8GB + 256GB and 12GB + 256GB variants are priced at Rs, 29,999 and Rs. 32,999, respectively. The handset is offered in two color options – Apricot Crush and Raisin Black. It will be available for Early Sale in the country starting at 7pm IST on May 27 via Flipkart.

  • Asus ROG Ally X

    Asus ROG Ally X is expected to be unveiled within the next couple of weeks and the specifications of the handheld gaming console have been leaked online ahead of its debut. It will arrive as an updated version of the first-generation ROG Ally, instead of a successor, and the details of the handset suggest some highly requested hardware improvements are coming to the ROG Ally X. These include an improved battery and more, higher-bandwidth memory that should boost the device’s performance.

  • Google will pick up a minority stake in Flipkart

    Alphabet’s Google will pick up a minority stake worth $350 million in Walmart-backed Flipkart, valuing the Indian e-commerce firm at $37 billion, a source with direct knowledge of the matter told Reuters.

    Google and Flipkart were not immediately available to confirm the value of the investment.

    The tech giant will join in as an investor in the latest funding round for the Bengaluru-based company, Flipkart said in a statement.

  • Crypto: News

    Crypto chart reflected losses next to most cryptocurrencies on Friday, May 24. Bitcoin recorded a loss of around one percent on Friday to trade at the price point of $71,771 (roughly Rs. 59.7 lakh) on Indian exchanges like CoinSwitch. Meanwhile, BTC was trading at $67,589 (roughly Rs. 56.2 lakh) on international exchanges like CoinMarketCap. As per market commenters, the key levels to clear for an upside move are $71,300 (roughly Rs. 59.3 lakh) and $73,800 (roughly Rs. 61.4 lakh).

    Ether recorded a loss of 0.65 percent on Friday. With this, the value of ETH has hit $3,285 (roughly Rs. 2.73 lakh). Market analysts are blaming an Ether-related upcoming update behind the current element of volatility affecting the crypto market.

  • Sony (PlayStation: News)

    Sony seems to be working on a new platform for free-to-play mobile games, according to details revealed via a PlayStation job listing. The job listing for the role of a Mobile Platform Architect mentions that the position requires designing PlayStation’s platform for “developing, publishing, and operating free-to-play mobile games.” The development comes after Microsoft announced that it would launch an Xbox mobile store in July.

    The PlayStation job listing, spotted by TweakTown, reveals some details about Sony’s plans for mobile gaming. According to the listing, PlayStation Studios Mobile is seeking an experienced software engineer, who would lead the design and implementation of Sony’s mobile games platform. The individual would also have to work with internal teams to connect mobile games to existing PlayStation services.
